Catherine Garza is pursuing a BFA in Theatre Production and Design with an emphasis in Lighting Design at the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. She began theatre through visual art which easily transitioned into the large picturesque medium of lighting design, and then the larger medium of live theatre as a whole. Since then, she has designed in university productions, with the City of Pharr, and for local theatre companies such as Spotlight Theatre Co.
Her artistic values focus on collaboration, elevating marginalized voices into the larger space of the theatre world, and creating art that will change people's lives. She is keen on new works and passionate about always trying new ways to tell stories and create impacts on large groups of people.
Her most recent productions include the Pharr Parks and Recreation Theatre Department's Frozen Jr. and the School of Theatre and Dance's Circadian Project, a devised piece of physical theatre in conjunction with the PUSH Physical Theatre company. In addition to lighting design, she has expanded to technical directing, stage management, scenic construction, and performing as a tour guide and on stage musician as well.
