Scene I, Cathy and her daughter are evicted from their apartment.
Scene 3, Shania, a housing officer's, office.
Scene 4, A gross new apartment, unclean and infested,
Scene 5, the back of a club, where Cathy takes a smoke break.
Scene 8, a calm morning on Cathy's sister's porch.
Scene 9, the dark, uncomfortable apartment of a man Cathy has slept with for one night's shelter.
Scene 11, a bus station, Cathy has lost her daughter and any chance at a home
Scene 12, Cathy and her daughter meet up after months; they are both uneasy, but hopeful of their opportunities in the future.
These (left) are some initial notes at the very beginning of the process. I had a brief meeting with the director where we discussed general looks and some specifics he wanted for each scene. This also incuded a lot of brainstorming.
Here (right) are some notes from a later rehearsal, where we began to add more specials and effects into the looks.

We began to move from realistic to more theatrical choices in the design at this point.

As our competition venue was further with each round, it came to a point where instead of having the show pre-programmed, I took exact notes of what needed to be done and did the programming in our one hour Official Rehearsal.
The different venues had varied ways of programming, such as incandescent cyc lights, where I learned how to color mix those lights for the first time, or having to use a magic sheet instead of typing in numbers. Each experience, although stressful, was helpful in making me adapt to different working conditions and learn new ways to create the same looks.
This experience also allowed be to become more organized with my paperwork and preparation.
